The Jacksonville Jewish Center welcomed friends of Atlantic Institute of Jacksonville for the second year to celebrate a festive Shabbat Ramadan Iftar dinner. The Shabbat celebration coincided with the month of Ramadan, a period of elevated sanctity on the Muslim calendar.
The program commenced with an introduction for Muslim participants about the meaning of Shabbat and for Jewish participants about the significance of Ramadan. Guests in the sanctuary were invited the view the Torah and ask questions of Rabbi Lubliner.
Dr. Parvez Ahmed and Rabbi Lubliner jointly presented a study program raising the similarities in the religions.
The musical Kabbalat Shabbat was enjoyed by all listening to the music and singing. The Muslim fast was broken with tea and shared dried fruit, followed by Maghrib (Muslim evening prayer).
Guests were then treated to a delicious dinner cooked by ladies from each faith. A big thank you to all who cooked, decorated, and worked on the logistics of this lovely evening.
